The ALP-X family
An Alpine crossing is a daunting challenge, both physically and mentally – you need fitness and strength on the way up, and all your technique and concentration heading back down. The demands placed on your clothing are no less exacting. Particularly for longer trips or a Transalp crossing, you need the best gear possible: versatile, light and easy to pack away when not required.
A new generation for extreme biking expeditions in all weathers
The ALP-X family of GORE BIKE WEAR™ materials for spring and summer comprises jerseys, jackets, shorts, trousers, gloves and socks. All these items are specially coordinated, so you can put together exactly the outfit you require.
The first ALP-X jacket was launched on the market in 2005. The GORE-TEX® Paclite® Shell material used at that time already provided reliable protection from the wind and wet, along with its breathability. The new-generation ALP-X jacket still does all this, but has also been reworked with some impressive new features. The garment is now reinforced with high-strength material on the shoulders and the outside of the lower arms – essential protection for narrow trails or when riding through forest country. Stretch gussets at the sides of the back and in the upper arms also ensure total freedom of movement for the biker.
In hot temperatures or during a tough ascent, simply open the front zip cover strip to start a flow of cool, fresh air via the patented ventilation insert, made of mesh material. And if you’re riding in the rain, the foldaway, removable hood can be worn to protect your sensitive head zones from the cold and the wet.
Weighing in at just 345 g (size L), the ALP-X jacket provides robust, lightweight protection. The long drop down tails offers spray protection but folds away for when your off you bike. The ultra-soft collar material prevents any unpleasant friction against your neck. The jacket is so compact that it’ll easily fit in your back pocket or stashed in your backpack – just the job for a long trip or a moorland crossing, when the weather can change without warning.
Protection for the knees, thighs and buttocks
The thin ALP-X overtrousers garment will be available in a ¾ style for the first time as from next summer. These trousers are windproof and completely waterproof, as well as having extreme breathability. They fold up small enough to stowed away yet are always at hand to protect your sensitive upper thigh muscles and knees when it rains, keeping these areas warm, and your seat insert dry. Stretch gussets are specifically designed for maximum freedom of movement for the cyclist’s movement patterns.
Soft, elastic and multi-functional
The ALP-X Zip-Off jacket has been specifically developed for mountain bikers. The WINDSTOPPER® jacket features outstanding functionality, optimum weather protection and climatic comfort. The new spring/summer model includes ultra-soft materials in the back and side sections, providing high stretch characteristics to ensure that your movements are not restricted in any way. The sleeves fit very close to the body, and are also very soft and elastic. The instant comfort of these sleeves feels rather like putting on an arm warmer. The sleeves can be removed, transforming your breathable jacket into a gilet in no time at all. The light and compact nature of the garment means that you can quickly pack it away in your backpack, making it ideal for either day trips or rides over several days. The side slits in the back pocket ensure ease of access even with your backpack on, and small items can be quickly stowed away in the Napoleon pocket, so they are always right there when they are needed.
